Attention all Cyclists - Mel Trotter Event - 12/17, McFadden's Tavern

Chuck Grzanka (fellow cyclist) puts on a fund raiser for Mel Trotter. He and three other guys started this about 5 or 6 years ago and it has now grown to a couple of hundred people attending just by ‘weaving’ the various cycling communities together.

Admission is a couple packages of new men’s underwear or a couple bucks donation. Spouses and children are more than welcome. It is a great evening to catch up with all of your cycling buddies and getting introduced to new ones.

Hey Bike Riders,
Thanksgiving is approaching and that means the somewhat annual Turkey Burner Ride! The turkey burner is your opportunity to get out and burn off all the food you ate on Thanksgiving. So here are the details:

What: Turkey Burner Bike Ride
When: Friday, November 28th at 10:00 am for a couple hour ride.
Where: Deep Lake Trail at Yankee Springs.
Who: Anyone who can ride a bike, down a skinny trail, through the woods, up and down hills, at an almost out of control speed and laugh about it! That means YOU!

Depending on the number of riders and their skill levels we'll split into groups so no one is left behind on the trail and yet everyone can have a fun ride. Including gears, singles and fixies. The Deep lake trail is open during firearm deer season, but it is also open to hunting, please dress accordingly. That means no brown jerseys with white spots!

Call with any questions and feel free to pass this along to your riding friends. This is for the community of riders, to give thanks and share in our friendships and sport!

Luton is a trail that Rick Plite of the WMMBA through Kent County Parks have been developing over the last years and Rick will be there to show us around. The trail is currently 5 miles and if the Red loop gets completed at Saturday's trail building day (9:00 am if you can help) it will be 6.5 miles total. Depending on the weather we'll do 2, 3 or whatever your fancy number of laps and retire to the Corner bar in Rockford for famous hotdogs and a cold one. There is no parking at Luton trail so we will meet at the D&W Plaza parking lot at the corner of 10 Mile Rd. and Northland Drive at 10:00am, ride the mile or so out to the trail and enjoy a new trail system.

Kisscross - Success!! - CalCycling Support - Disappointing!!!

I want to offer a special thanks to Brian Parker for his efforts in support of the 1st annual Caledonia - Kisscross race held this past Saturday at Lakeside Park.

As many of you know, one of the stated purposes of our "club" is to create relationships and reach out and build cycling awareness in our community.

We had a great opportunity to do that and to be quite blunt, we did a miserable job. I would like to challenge each of you to support events like this in the future...so before you all start emailing, calling or explaining that you couldn't make it for whatever reason...let me save some time and I'll give you two quarters to call someone who cares...just kidding, so don't get all worked up.

KISSCROSS RACE - Coming to Caledonia,Saturday, Oct 4th - Race/Volunteer or Both

Our own Martin Hall is bringing the Kisscross race series to Caledonia, Lakeside Park on Saturday, October 4th.

What is KISSCROSS and Racing for Beer?
The idea here is to have a series of cyclocross races and other events or rides throughout the year that are fun, low key and challenging for riders of any skill level. And the beer....Yes we give away Founders beer at each 'cross race as an award to some lucky racers.

The great news is that the Cal Cycling club is listing as a host of the event. This gives us a great opportunity to support the cycling community. So here's how we can contribute:

Martin need help at the course in Lakeside park at about 8:30 or 9:00 at the latest. The course 1.5 miles and needs flagged, taped at turns, barriers installed and ridden prior to 10:00 am. The first race, "C" beginners, goes off at 11:00, "B" sports at 12:00, and "A" experts at 1:00. Since most of our Cal Cycling group is not experienced at cyclocross but are all strong riders Martin suggest we would be in the B's or maybe A's for the fastest of the group. 9:00am Confirmed - Labor Day (9/1) - Single Speed MTB Ride

Yes geared bikes are welcome!!!

As we head to Labor Day and the unofficial end of summer I thought it might be fun to hold a "Single Speed Nation" ride. So the plan is pretty simple, this time let's ride from Canonsburg Ski area, do a lap there, ride over to Canonsburg State Game Area do a lap, poach some trails, ride back to the ski area and either pull another lap or stop and eat hot dogs and have a cold barley pop or two in celebration of laboring to fix our riding habits! Bring your own dogs and barley pop, I'll bring a small portable gas grill to cook dogs on. Lets start at 9:00 am ride for two or three hours, celebrate and then head for other family holiday activities.

Calling All Bikers - Kilt Klassic Needs You!

The Kilt Klassic (5K Running Race) is in need of volunteers to "man" intersections around the course and is asking the CalCycling club for assistance.

...they say that practice makes perfect....not sure I agree completely...but that's for another day...since I heard a few whines last week (GP) with our approach, we're going to try it again, so both the A&B Groups will be starting at 7:00am this coming Saturday and will be riding the same route...Greg P will be organizing the ride...so if it doesn't go well, don't complain or you'll get stuck organizing the next week...
